Marlin is admitted to the California Bar and is licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. He has over 15 years experience in intellectual property law and currently specializes in patent drafting and prosecution in technology related areas. The subject matter areas of his practice include a variety of disk drive related technologies such as thin film materials science, error correction methods, read heads and write heads. Other fields in which he has written patents include database and compiler software and radio-frequency identification and tracking.
Before going into private practice in 2000, he worked as an in-house attorney for IBM in various subject matter areas, including disk drives and computer software. He also worked in a technical capacity for IBM in China and Japan for several years. Marlin graduated from Vanderbilt School of Law in 1976 and has undergraduate degrees from the University of Tennessee (with highest honors) and the University of North Florida in mathematics with a specialty in computer science.
